Smells Like Van Spirit, recording buskers in a van
A mobile studio is touring around Europe, disguised as a Volkswagen Transporter T3 van. The driver is Maten Berger, a german music producer with a crazy and at the same time beautiful idea: make a tour all along Europe to discover and record the best street artists.
The project is called “Smells Like Van Spirit”, a not so hidden quote from the iconic Nirvana’s song, and has a former ice cream van as protagonist. The van, called “Eric the fatboy”, was reconverted to a mobile recording studio.
“This is a die hard DIY project – Marten says – I converted the van and built up the studio. I have a bachelor in music and during my studies I found this street musician in the Netherlands and I thought “I want to do more of this, I want to record this kind of things”.
SMELLS LIKE VAN SPIRIT
Marten’s idea came up when he recorded his “first busker”: his name is Christiaan Mauer, a street artist that perfroms in Croningen, a city in the north of the Netherlands. Christiaan become famous on the for this video, where he performs the famous John Denver’s song “Country Roads”.
