Essere studenti universitari in Sri Lanka
Oggi voglio condividere con te alcuni aneddoti interessanti sulla vita degli studenti universitari in Sri Lanka. Partiamo col dire che c’è un periodo di ‘reclutamento‘ iniziale per i nuovi entrati, che guardandomi indietro posso dire essere stato piuttosto divertente. All’inizio sembra tutto molto duro perchè i più grandi sono molto severi, anche se presto diventeranno buoni amici. L’obiettivo principale del reclutamento in effetti è quello di fare in modo che i nuovi entrati si possano conoscere, mescolando tra di loro le diverse provenienze. Durante questo periodo i più vecchi insegnano lo slang dell’università, una specie di linguaggio in codice che può capire solo chi c’è dentro. Dopodichè a molti studenti (soprattutto ragazzi) viene associato un nickname, con il quale verranno chiamati per tutta la durata dell’università (se non di più). Spesso non ricordo nemmeno quale sia il vero nome dei miei compagni!
Today I am going to share with you some interesting facts about the Sri Lankan university life as an undergraduate. There is a general ‘rag’ period at the start for the freshers entering the university and now looking back, it was an experience which was quite fun worth a lifetime..!! It is initially very hard for the freshers as the seniors would be very strict on them, however, it develops in to lasting friendships afterwards. The main aim of this activity is to make the freshers get to know each other very well and also mix up with other layers of students in the community. During this period they would teach us the slang language used within the university where the terms would only be understood by the insiders, and also interestingly enough each student (especially the guys) would get a nick name by which they would be called for their entire university career (often for longer). As a result, to date I don’t recall the real names of some of my colleagues, but I do remember their fun and cheeky nick names!
